Save the Date Cards
While Wedding invitations are traditionally sent 2 to 4 months before a wedding, Save the Date cards can be sent from 6 months to a year before the wedding. Since our wedding has a literary theme we decided to use a large decorative stamp with a dictionary entry of the word "love". Seen here:
Inside we stamped a large “Save This Date” stamp, and at the bottom a decorative frame in which we wrote the date of the wedding. And in between the two stamps we wrote that we were getting married and in what city since many of our guests will be coming from out of town.
I already owned a few stamps and stamp pads and bought the blank cards months before because $6 for 100 blank cards was a good deal.
Other Save the Date cards come in the form of post cards or even magnets which are convenient; you can keep them on your fridge to help remember the date.
Here are some places I found other save the dates I like:
You can buy many templates or printable invitations on the cheap for save the date and invitation cards. Here are a few websites for that:

If you want to support craftspeople here are some Save the Dates I really like from Etsy that fit the Literary or Library theme:

If you want a literary themed wedding you can buy blank library cards on etsy, some office supply stores online, some teacher supply stores, and Amazon. If you like an antique or vintage look you can tea dye the cards and add a touch a brown marker on the edges to give it an antique look.
If you want to make your own magnets you can buy a roll of magnetic tape at the craft store and make your own. Just pint out your message, cut them out, Coat them in a good quality packing tape or clear contact paper or laminate it if you have assess to a laminator. Then cut out a piece of the role of magnetic tape or use individual magnets and super glue it or use a glue gun. Send it in a card. You can also add a personal touch and add a picture of you and your fiancé.
